The Volac Colostrometer is a simple, effective tool used to measure the quality of colostrum in maternal milk, helping farmers make informed decisions during the critical first feeding of newborn calves. A colostrometer works by measuring the density (specific gravity) of colostrum, which correlates closely with immunoglobulin (IgG) levels. Using a colostrometer allows you to quickly assess whether colostrum is suitable for feeding, should be supplemented, or should be replaced with stored high-quality colostrum.
The Volac Colostrometer is easy to use and requires no power source. A sample of colostrum is placed into a measuring cylinder, and the colostrometer is gently lowered into the liquid.
